BACKGROUND:

The American Legion Post 117 was initially housed in a building at 2951 Hessey Ave NE, Palm Bay, FL, prior to June 1988. This building is now occupied by the AMVETs. It required over three years of financial planning to reach the groundbreaking ceremony, which took place on Saturday, June 11, 1988. The ceremony was led by Bill Palmer, the Building Committee Chairman and Commander-elect of the Post. The main building was completed in the fall of 1988.
